Tangy Ketchup

Home-made ketchup so good you could drink it (and much better for you than the store bought kind!) Kid approved!

I love ketchup and pretty much all sauces however I don't like how much salt and sugar is in them! Here is my tangy ketchup
Prep time: 15 min         Cook time: 30 min 

Ingredients:

  • 1 TBSP olive oil

  • 1 medium - large red onion sliced 

  • 2 chopped garlic cloves 

  • 1 inch piece of ginger peeled, chopped 

  • 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes 

  • 1/4 tsp. ground allspice 

  • 1 can tomato paste 

  • 1 large can tomatoes (in juice) OR 3 large tomatoes 

  • 1/4 cup all natural maple syrup 

  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

  • salt pinch and pepper  

How to: 

Step 1: Chop/peel all ingredients as directed on ingredients list

Step 2: Cook onions in oil until soft and sweet

Step 3: Add garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes, allspice and cook another 2 minutes 

Step 4: Add can of tomatoes or fresh tomatoes (chopped), maple syrup, cider vinegar, salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer then reduce and cook for 20 minutes

Step 5: Blend until smooth -> refrigerate for up to 1 month
